oneballjay began as an experimental surf-wax project circa '85 when jay rota ( aka. oneballjay ) & matt cummins were introduced to the sport of surfing. during the summer, skateboarding was a main focus and surfing proved to be a fresh alternative. in the midst of surfing and driving to the beach, they decided to try to make their own surfing wax. the first concoctions were terrible, dubbed "sap wax" because it contained car oil, bees wax & tree sap.
