hall began wrestling at the age of 4 with his brothers, and became interested in the greco-roman style because he could never beat his older brother, daniel, at freestyle. on march 22, 1988, daniel died in a drunk driving accident. hall says he was close with his brother and almost quit wrestling when daniel died. hall took two months off from wrestling before deciding that daniel would have wanted him to continue. hall speaks to high school students and athletes three to four times per year about peer pressure and drinking. he says his brother's death "woke me up, and woke up some of my friends. if it saves one life, it's worth it."
