Rip Curl Boardmasters 2007: Ben Bourgeois Wins the Rip Curl Boardmasters WQS in England

The Men’s Rip Curl Boardmasters 5 star World Qualifying Series (WQS) surfing contest came to a close this afternoon, with former Foster’s ASP World Tour surfer Ben Bourgeois (USA) defeating Brazilian excitement machine Heitor Alves in tricky, 2-3ft (1m) surf. The Rip Curl Boardmasters started one week ago with 168 surfers, but at 4pm today there were only two competitors left standing on the winner’s podium. For Bourgeois, the win launches him to second on the WQS Ratings, just 24 points behind WQS Tour leader Tiago Pires (PRT).

ASP World No. 10 Jacqueline Silva (BRA) has defeated teenage European sensation Pauline Ado (FRA) in clean 2-3ft (1m) surf to win the Davidoff Cool Water Wave 5 star WQS at the 2007 Rip Curl Boardmasters.
Silva dominated the 30-minute final, which was held at 3.30pm today, in front of thousands of sunbaking spectators packed onto Newquay’s Fistral Beach.
The 28-year-old led for the majority of the final, eventually posting an 8.00-point ride on her last wave to total a two-wave combined score of 14.83 points. Ado struggled to find the form she’d shown throughout the contest, posting low

The Rip Curl Boardmasters nailed a 12-hour day of surfing on Friday, with Round 3 of the Men's WQS taking main stage on Newquay's Fistral Beach. Clean 2-3ft conditions, sunny skies, big crowds and plenty of awesome surfing!

While the WQS was in action in the water, some of Europe's best skaters headed into town to set up a massive stair gap session on one of Newquay's main streets. The result was epic. We've whacked the highlights on the end of this clip!

The sun was belting down on Newquay's Fistral Beach on Day 3 and the crowd was huge, happily watching the final 6 heats of Round 2 take the water in the morning. The surf was good, but the surfing was still quality - led by Pedro Henrique's 18.20-point win in Heat 24.

The Brazilian was on fire, locking in a 9.70 ride (the highest of the contest so far) on his way to the 18.20 two-wave combined score (also the highest of the contest so far).

Despite some early wet weather this morning at Newquay’s Fistral Beach, the Rip Curl Boardmasters launched into action at 8am this morning with the opening round of the 5 star Men’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) contest. The opening round featured 12, four-man heats, with the event’s unseeded competitors battling the tricky 2-3ft (0.5-1m) surf in 20-minute spurts.

The Davidoff Cool Water Wave Women’s 5 star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event hit the water at Newquay’s Fistral Beach at 8am this morning, launching an exciting week of action sport and music mayhem at the 26th annual Rip Curl Boardmasters. Here are the highlights!  The WQS surfers faced wind-blown 3-4ft (1-1.5m) waves throughout the morning, competing in front of a massive crowd who were also enjoying one of the more warmer days Newquay has seen in recent weeks.  WQS events always showcase the exciting young talent moving through the surfing world ranks, but the Boardmasters is also blessed to have some of the ASP World Tour’s elite in town for the week.
