Tempe, AZ - Red Bull Wake Lab, the biggest and most innovative wakeboarding event ever devised, splashed down in Tempe Town Lake during the Circle K Tempe Music Festival on April 3rd and 4th. Over two days more than 25,000 spectators experienced some of the nation's top wakeboarders showing off their best tricks on the "Wake Lab," a one-of-a-kind floating skatepark.

The first day of competition got off to a rocky start as 50 mph gusts of wind caused two of the qualifying rounds to be postponed. But Saturday brought clear skies and calm winds, and an early start allowed the event to get right back on track. At the end of a day of tight competition, four riders walked away with awards - Aaron Rathy (Most Progressive), Adam Errington (Best Trick), Parks Bonifay (Best Line) and JD Webb (Best Overall).

Shimano has teamed up with Anthill Films to produce a series of videos that uniquely showcase its 2009 mountain disc brake technologies through the eyes of some of the best in the sport. Served up like a six-course meal with wine pairings for each dish of singletrack, the videos spotlight different components and themes, pairing the most ideal trails for the various brake systems in different locations all over the world. This is the second video that dropped today featuring Shimano team riders Andrew Shandro and Wade Simmons doing some all-mountain shredding in the Arizona desert.

Cody McEntire Gets a dozen tricks in Arizona

This little session occurred during our recent trip to Phoenix, AZ. I was doing some filming at Pecos Park and I could see Cody attacking the cement quarter pipe in the middle of the park. I skated up and asked him to film some stuff for a 10-tricks clip on the website. Well, he got to ten and the session was still heated so I kept recording. It looks like he gave you guys a few extra. The park has proved to bring out the best skating in the world's top amatuers year after year. This year, the Volcom crew in the contest consisted of Luan Oliveira from Brazil, Louie Lopez from Hawthorne, Kyle Walker from Oklahoma and Ben Raemers all they way from Essex in England. These guys, along with the rest of the skaters ripped all weekend.

Winter Count 2009 with Levi Brown and Friends

The main reason for attending is to participate in the workshops and activities, but our crew brought their own craft, building obstacles in the barren lands and skating.
