The first annual Aflac Iron Girl Triathlon, a female-only competition founded to empower women toward a healthy lifestyle, came to Syracuse on Sunday morning, July 26, 2009 at Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton.

Nautica NYC Triathlon 2009

The 9th Annual Nautica New York City Triathlon took place in Manhattan featuring athletes from 45 states and 18 countries. The top finishers were Greg Bennett who achieved a fourth consecutive win with a time of 1:45:50 and Rebeccah Wassner with a time of 1:58:25. The course consisted of a 1,500-meter swim in the Hudson River, a 40-kilometer bike ride along the Henry Hudson Parkway, and a 10K run in Central Park. The IAMS 5-Mile Doggy Dash was also a popular event this year with nearly 20 dogs and their owners taking part.

Shipwrecked crew members who did make it to land alive never really stood a chance against the utter destructive barrenness of the desert that always managed to finally even the score.
