How To Use Hand Signals Safely while Cycling in Traffic Video

http://www.rei.com/category/4500003 The key to riding your bike safely in traffic is to let cars around you know what you're doing. In this video, Dan, an REI Outdoor School instructor demonstrates proper hand signals that help you to be predictable. When you want to turn left, point left with your left arm. When you want to turn right, either point right with your right arm, or raise your left arm bent up at the elbow. To signal that you're slowing down or stopping, lower your left arm bent at the elbow. Slow down and maintain control of your bike when signaling, as signaling requires you to take one hand off the brakes.

C = Chain: Check that your drivetrain is clean and lubed.

How To Position Your Body While Riding a Road Bike Video

http://www.rei.com/category/4500003 Dan, an REI Outdoor School instructor, shows in this video how proper body position helps you on uphills, downhills, and when turning on your road bike. On downhills, keep your body weight back to the rear of the bike; on uphills, keep your weight forward. When cornering, keep the outside leg extended and lean the bike to the inside.

How To Fit Your Road Bike Video

http://www.rei.com/category/4500003 Dan, an REI Outdoor School instructor, shows how to fit your road bike properly in this video. To check that your bike is the right size for your legs, straddle the bike: You want about an inch clearance above the frame. To check the seat height: get on while a friend holds the frame steady—you want your leg about 90% extended (still slightly bent). The seat can also move forward or back; when your pedal is all the way up, you want that bent leg vertical so that your knee is over the ball of your foot. The bike fits your torso when your back is at a 45-degree angle and your arms are somewhat bent; you may need to change the handlebar stem out for a longer or shorter one to get the right torso length.
