Skateboarding Big Air in a nutshell: The atheletes start by dropping in on a massive ramp, which is essentially an 80 foot controlled freefall. This gives them enough spped to launch themselves into the air, clearing a fifty foot gap, and pulling a sick trick in the process. Then, if they can manage to land, they find themselves heading right for a 25 foot wall which they proceed to invert themselves on, going another 20 feet above the top of the ramp, and comming strights back down. Oh, and they happen to pull another mind boggling trick while they are floating through the air trying to figure out why they dropped in in the first place.

Danny Way Suffers Mega Fall in Brazil - Brazil News Report

While skating the MegaRamp in Sao Paulo, Brazil Danny Way has apparently suffered a serious, but recoverable injury to his back. Sources close to us mention that hes in the hospital with broken vertebrae and will not be able to return to his skateboard for up to 6 months. Although this report from Brazil is in Portuguese, it highlights the heavy fall that Danny withstood after he came up a bit short on the landing.

Tough as they come, be assured that the MegaRamp pioneer will make a full recovery. Get well soon Danny!

Danny Way Breaks Two Vertebrae in MegaRamp Crash - Get Well Soon!

Get Well Soon!

Danny Way crashes on the MegaRamp while performing in Brazil for an event. In Brazil, Bob Burnquist, Way and others were in town for a contest going down this weekend.

As you can see in the video below, Way didn’t land cleanly after clearing the gap, sliding down the landing in obvious pain. Way was reportedly taken to the hospital and diagnosed with two broken vertebrae, though he has subsequently been released.

Sandro Dias is scheduled to replace Way in the contest and another skater is sought to replace Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who did not make the trip
