Search and Rescue Dog Training at Alpine Meadows

On Tuesday February 5th Alpine Meadows hosted a full day of search and rescue dog training in conjunction with the Placer County Sherriff Search and Rescue, and the Placer County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Tahoe Dog Team. It was a real carnival for the dogs with helicopter rides, treasure hunts in the snow and non-stop games all designed to train them to sniff out and save buried avalanche victims. http://www.skialpine.com

March 14th 2006, Nice sunny day, no clouds, no wind. Avalanche risk level 3 of 5. I'm the guy skiing (not the guy filming). I have skied out of the avalanche to the right behind the rock.
See for yourself.
Note: We were equipped with Ortovox avalanche systems, shovels, probes etc.

In 1999, best friends Alex Lowe and Conrad Anker were overcome by an avalanche while climbing in the Tibetan Himalaya, only Conrad survived. Conrad suffered terribly from Survivor's Guilt and in comforting one another, he and Alex's widow, Jennifer, unexpectedly found love. Now Conrad and Jennifer try to find meaning beyond tragedy with a mountaineering safety school for Sherpas.
