One of the oldest rolls around is still one of the easiest. It helps for the complete beginner to start in a set up position. In this roll however it is not necessary to start in a set up position as you progress.

The roll is often criticized for reasons that look intutive but upon further investigation do not hold up. It is often said that if you do not get up and fall over again you are lieing back on the deck looking at the bottom of the river. Well you could say that you are exposed with a C to C roll if you did not get up and you were in the second C. It looks wierd as it substitutes hip snap or rotation with laying way back but i have seen them work well for some people and i have tried it. if you go into an agressive forward stroke when you get upright and minimize the time laying on the back deck wellll it works and you could make an argument with very little energy. It is easy to criticize this roll many have done it....but try it it works. It is not my roll of choice however as I am a big guy and if I am in a small boat I have to get off the back deck very very quick or the boat is verticle.
