Mountaineers ascend high altitude peaks hoping to summit and return to camp without injury. Ski mountaineers combine skiing and mountaineering to access virgin backcountry slopes using climbing skins on their skis, crampons, ice axes and ropes to reach the peak, where they then can enjoy downhill skiing of the empty slopes below. Dangers include bad weather conditions and avalanches.
