Default What camera to buy?
I have a regular digital camera that I use as a video camera. I would like to upgrade my digital camera to one that takes better quality movies (not interested in a primarily movie camera). Anyone have any advice on a digital camera that takes good quality movies? Thanks in advance!

A lot of video cameras today take stills so you should really reconsider getting a video camera instead of a digital that doubles.

Before You Buy Your First Video Camera

Buying a camera is like buying a car. There are so many models out there and it's so difficult to start the research what which make you happy about your purchase. These links will help you sort through what is important to you whether it is analog versus digital format, quality of the lens, the ability of the camera to act like a digital camera, and more. Read on.

FIRST Find Out What Equipment You'll Need for Desktop Video
Here is an overview of the equipment you will need for desktop video, broken up by the process in which you'll shoot a video.

SECOND Find Out How You Get Video Into The Computer
In order to understand what you might look for in a camera, you should find out more about the process of editing video on the computer. If this is something you want to do, don't spend all your money on the camera, because you need a few more things to get started. When I first got started in Desktop Video I bought a cheap Digital8 camera for under $500...

THIRD Research and Evaluate Video Cameras
I've selected ten video cameras under $600, and ten more under the $2000 price, and have tried to put them on the same level. There are clear advantages to some of these cameras, and worth the extra cost, however many of these cameras offer equivalent quality. If you need additional assistance, check out the Forums.

More about me:
I shoot with the Sony VX2000 'Sony DCRVX2000 MiniDV Digital Camcorder with 2.5" LCD, Memory Stick & BuiltIn Digital Still Mode'
I edit with Adobe Premiere 'Adobe Premiere 6.5'
I like my new Sony MiniDisc Recorder 'Sony MZ-N1 Net MD Walkman Player/Recorder with USB' for capturing sound at locations all over the Boston area.

Good luck in your quest for the perfect DV camera.

if you want quality go for the camcorder. if you bundle the camera with both features you loose out on both.

my advice is to check out ebay, or future shop or something like that. and get a cheap vid camera. like 400 bucks.

you can always upgrade later
