Canyon Creek Race 2007

Friday morning saw host to the annual Canyon Creek Race, and we were blessed with sunshine, hail, 62 paddlers, and very little water. For those who have never paddled Canyon Creek, the river is 5 miles of Class IV-V with the first part of the river being mellow but walled out.

The race course starts in the eddy right above the first waterfall and flows through several other waterfalls and boulder drops. The dangerous part of the race comes from competitors charging through rapids and not taking the cleanest lines.
The low water greatly reduced the "Beatdown Factor" of the race section, but it made the manky rapids even mankier. Overall most people had clean lines throughout the course, but there were several reported face rides, pins, and pitons.

In the end Tao Berman took top honors followed by Andy Maser and Josh Bectel. The Women's race was won by Heather Herbeck, and Justin Patt won the Jr. Division.
